Why I Do This Work

After a 40-year career as a Boeing Technical Fellow, I witnessed firsthand the toll that cognitive decline can take. Watching both my father and grandfather suffer from neurodegenerative disease led me to a decision: I would do everything in my power to prevent that outcome in my own life - and help others do the same.

It was at this time that I learned all I could about chronic illness and particularly cognitive decline. I earned my Health Coaching certification through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. This was soon followed by graduation from the Apollo Health ReCODE 2.0 training program. Today, I am helping individuals take control of their cognitive and overall health through implementation of the Bredesen Protocol®. I have found that there is nothing more gratifying than helping others and their loved ones avoid the hopelessness and pain of this debilitating disease.

I believe no one should have to suffer from cognitive decline and my mission is to empower individuals with the knowledge and support they need to take control of their health.

No one should have to face the fear and uncertainty of cognitive decline alone. I work side-by-side with individuals and families to provide the structure, education and encouragement they need to implement the Bredesen Protocol® and other lifestyle changes that support long-term health.

My Personal Story

At 70 years old, I am still taking one week backpacking trips high into the mountains, riding my mountain bike 20 miles, running 4 miles, swimming 1 mile and doing 20 consecutive pull-ups. I have no known illness, take no prescription drugs and feel like I did in my 20’s. This is largely due to the application of Functional Medicine - good nutrition, supplements, exercise, sleep, a deep love and immersion in nature, meditation, prayer, fulfilling my purpose in life and prioritizing family, friends and community.

I haven’t been sick in 40 years (not even a cold) which I attribute to intermittent fasting (nothing other than black coffee and fruit prior to noon). I maintain a 6 hour eating window comprised largely of vegetables, moderate amounts of healthy proteins and fats. No sugar, grain or dairy.

I grew up in Hawaii as a local “haole” cliff diving, surfing, spear fishing and backpacking. As an avid “waterman,” I became one of the Big Island’s first dozen lifeguards.

I graduated from UC Davis as a mechanical engineer and went to work for Boeing in Washington where I went on to achieve the position of a “Technical Fellow,” for which only 1% of all Boeing engineers ever achieve.

After a successful 40 year career, I retired and became a certified Functional Medicine and ReCODE 2.0 health coach. I now live 9 months of the year on the Big Island of Hawaii and the summer months in the great Northwest living out of my camper van traveling, hiking, camping and backpacking.
